Since the first century, followers of Jesus Christ have understood that to be a Christian means to be a part of a spiritual community. Followers of Jesus Christ are in a unique partnership with each other, a family relationship with each other, and have responsibilities to each other. These biblical responsibilities include loving each other, helping each other with financial needs, being impartial toward each other, accepting each other, bearing each other’s burdens, forgiving each other, teaching and correcting each other, encouraging each other, and praying for each other. All of this presupposes that each of us is actually living out our Christian life in intense community with other followers of Jesus Christ.
